Internationally acclaimed saxophonist and composer Ernest Dawkins, in
association with Live the Spirit Residency, has entered into a residency and
collaborative agreement with Punta Giara Cultural Association of Sant’Anna
Arresi, Italy; producers of the XXIV edition of “Ai confini tra Sardegna e Jazz” and
of the VIII edition of the Workshops “Marcello Melis”.
Dawkins will travel to Sant’Anna Arresi August 24 thru September 4, 2009, to begin the first in a series of workshops as part of a three-year residency and cultural exchange partnership. This project is a direct outcome of the success of Dawkins’
performance in 2008 at “Ai confini tra Sardegna e Jazz”, and his reputation as a
developer of young, up and coming talent.
Dawkins will select six young musicians from Chicago to travel with him to
participate in ten days of workshops that culminate in a performance on
September 2, 2009. The final concert will be part of the programme of the XXIV
edition of “Ai confini tra Sardegna e Jazz” and will take place at Piazza Del
Nuraghe. Following the experience in Sardegna, six young Italian musicians will
travel to Chicago. The Italian musicians will participate in master classes with
Dawkins and perform at the Tenth Annual Englewood Jazz Festival on
September 19, 2009, in Hamilton Park.
